How to avoid Bad Breath

Halitosis, or what is commonly referred to as bad breath, is a problem which causes extreme discomfort to those who suffer from it.

Most of the time halitosis is caused by foods which following digestion, cause bad breath. Fatty foods, coffee, tobacco, onions, garlic and even some spices are examples of foods to avoid for those suffering from this problem.

Poor oral hygiene is also another cause of bad breath The accumulation of food debris between the teeth and the tongue leads to the spread of bacteria and can even cause other complications such as periodontitis or gingivitis.

 

If you adopt healthy oral hygiene habits you can combat halitosis and obtain a more pleasant smelling breath.

However the reasons for bad breath can be diverse and varied, ranging from gastroesophageal reflux, tonsillitis, intestinal, liver, lung to even more serious diseases like certain types of cancer.

Tips for Fresh Breath:

  1. Brush Teeth and Use Dental Floss After Each Meal
  2. Brush tongue after waking up and at bedtime
  3. Maintain Prostheses or Dental Appliances disinfected: If you use dental braces or dental prostheses, always keep them clean and disinfected.
  4. Use an appropriate mouthwash and toothpaste which also helps reduce plaque.
  5. Replace your Toothbrush every 4 months.
  6. Go to the dentist on a regular basis.
  7. Avoid fatty foods, tobacco and coffee.
  8. Adopt a healthy balanced diet and avoid stressful situations
  9. Drink at least 2 liters of water per day and eat every 3 hours.
